Waterline Replacement: Brentwood Manor and Royal Palms

Project Owner: City of Tempe
Project Type: Construction Manager at Risk
Construction Dates: 05/17 to 05/18

This project included approximately 8.8 miles of 4”, 6”, 8”, and 12” waterline replacements throughout neighborhoods and along two high volume arterial streets. Work also included service connections, fire hydrants, other appurtenances, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, pavement replacement, slurry/micro seal, crack seal, striping, etc. The project encompassed the area bound by Southern Avenue, Alameda Drive, College Avenue, and Dorsey Lane. Public outreach was essential in order to keep the public informed of the project’s progression. This was a well-established community with active neighborhood associations and businesses. We discovered many timeworn underground utilities and unknowns to contend with during construction. Achen-Gardner worked with the City of Tempe and design engineers to maintain operation and protection of the existing water system while constructing and connecting the new system. Total quantities included: 49,433 LF of pipe, 245 valves (4”, 6”, 8”, and 12”), 837 services, 11,613 LF of ITS conduit, 85 fire hydrants, 24,724 SY of pavement, 7,327 SF of sidewalk, 1,394 LF of curb and gutter, 1,902 SF of valley gutter, and 267,711 SY of slurry/micro seal.
