Ak-Chin Link Pipeline Repair and Mitigation
Project Owner: Ak-Chin Indian Community
Project Type: Design-Build
Construction Dates: 10/18 to 12/19
This project will evaluate corrosion and pipeline material deterioration in numerous segments of the 8.4 mile long Ak-Chin Link Pipeline.
Phase 1 was completed from 10/18 to 12/18. Achen-Gardner crews exposed 348 LF of 78” pipe near the intersection of John Wayne Parkway and Peters and Nall Road. The pipe was cleaned and the existing mortar coating and wire wrap of the Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) were evaluated. Repairs were performed in critical locations and a concrete reinforced encasement was poured around the pipe to mitigate further deterioration. Additional services under this project also include soil borings and geotechnical analysis, cathodic protection system improvements, and continuing soil continuity and resistivity testing to determine best methods for long-term corrosion mitigation.
