Detroit Basin/Gazelle Meadows Park Storm System and Associated Improvements
Project Owner: City of Chandler
Project Type: Construction Manager at Risk
Construction Dates: 11/23 to 05/25
We installed more than 7,000 LF of large-diameter storm drain and completed other wet utility and roadway improvements within a residential area of Detroit Basin and Gazelle Meadows Park. This neighborhood has had flooding issues for years and we are proud to have worked with the City of Chandler and Entellus (design engineer) to improve the quality of life for residents in this area. We are working with residents and stakeholders to maintain safety and access during construction.
Work included:
7,113 LF of 12” to 36” ADS storm drain
36 catch basins
1,042 LF of 8” VCP sewer
34 manholes
308 LF of 8” UV CIPP
1,905 LF of 1”, 6”, and 12” waterlines with valves and fittings
Replacement of concrete and asphalt
We coordinated with subcontractors to add more than 3,500 SF of decorative crosswalk features. In several areas of Erie Street, the asphalt is stamped and colored to look like brick walkways. Before this work, we milled and paved 2,500 tons of asphalt on the street.
We are currently focused on improving Gazelle Meadows Park to provide residents with a better-quality place to congregate and play. Improvements include a new basketball court, ramadas, skate park, barbecue grills, accessible parking and sidewalks, new playground equipment, landscaping, and shade structures. We poured more than 23,037 SF of concrete sidewalk and paved 969 CY of asphalt for the new parking lot within the park. Our crews also built accessible sidewalk ramps, 14,360 LF of irrigation, and placed new landscaping around the park.
Achen-Gardner had the opportunity to go the extra mile and donate our time, resources, and materials to support Live Love, a non-profit organization dedicated to building strong communities. They are constructing The Oasis, a transformative two-acre community center, on Erie Street near Gazelle Meadows Park. This is adjacent to where we installed a new waterline and storm drain. To support their development, we installed new service lines from our new waterline to their property as part of this project.
