Cactus Road (BNSF RAILROAD CROSSING TO LITCHFIELD ROAD)
Project Owner: City of Surprise
Project Type: Construction Manager at Risk
Construction Dates: 10/24 to 06/25
This project included roadway improvements to Cactus Road from Litchfield Road to the east of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway within the City of Surprise. This required curb, gutter, and sidewalk concrete work, three 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, and two-way left turn lanes with raised medians. We also completed median changes to Waterworks Drive and installed drainage, water and sewer lines, one sewer manhole, a dry well, street lights, traffic signals, conduits, and landscaping. Achen-Gardner also self-performed the excavation of six new retention basins and backfilled an irrigation basin that was formerly used for farming. The project included more than 19,000 SY of roadway excavation. The entire project required coordination with the BNSF Railway as we widened the roadway that crosses the tracks.
Scope included:
6,900 CY of excavation for retention basins
19,100 SY of roadway excavation
19,100 SY of asphalt
17,900 SF of sidewalk
7,700 LF of curb and gutter
600 LF of water and sewer lines
