Dennis has been with Achen-Gardner since 1989 when he was hired as Vice President to start the Heavy Highway Division. Since that time, his vision and leadership have taken a division that completed $750,000 worth of contracts in its first year to the Achen-Gardner of today, which has completed projects in excess of $1.5 billion. He has led the organization in completing more than 700 projects throughout Arizona. Dennis has given back to our industry and served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors for 20 years. He also served as Chairman of the Arizona AGC in 2006.
Dennis holds a B.S. in Land/Resource Management from Slippery Rock University (Slippery Rock, PA) and has resided in Arizona since 1979. Dennis has three children, Alexander, Gabriella, and Isabella.
John joined Achen-Gardner’s dynamic team of construction professionals in April 1991. Starting as general superintendent, John’s superb management and leadership skills resulted in a fast track to his current responsibilities as President. His ability to set new standards within the ever-changing and highly competitive construction industry made him the natural choice to become a co-owner in 1999.
Drawing on more than 25 years experience in business management and construction administration, John continues to take Achen-Gardner to new heights of excellence. John continues to embrace each new challenge with the same dedication that has been instrumental in Achen-Gardner’s tremendous success. John assists in the solving of technical issues, as well as also constructively mediating interpersonal and personality situations that comes with managing more than 300 employees.
John holds a B.S. in Business Management and Administration from Bradley University (Peoria, IL). He is married and has three boys.
DAN SPITZA, PE, AVS
Vice President, Director of Business Development, Director of Project Managers, and Director of Design Services
Dan started his career in Arizona in 1985 and joined the Achen-Gardner team as an estimator and project manager in April 1998. Dan possesses all of the necessary experience and knowledge to participate and understand all phases of any project. His years in the southwest area construction industry, impressive background as a registered professional civil engineer, and grass roots experience having held positions ranging from project engineer to project superintendent to design phase manager have enabled him to effectively evaluate the construction methods and management systems at Achen-Gardner in order to achieve new levels of excellence. His efforts have been rewarded with steady increases in Achen-Gardner’s competitiveness, annual volume, and market share.
Dan is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors and is an active member of AWA, DBIA, ACE, AACE, MPA, TUCA, AMIGOS, and the Arizona Chapters of AGC, APWA, and ACEC. His expertise and ability to establish important professional relationships has been instrumental in Achen-Gardner’s recognition as one of the most respected heavy/highway construction companies in the state of Arizona.
Dan is a second generation civil engineer born and raised in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin (Madison, WI). Dan is married and has two boys, Jack and Max.
Vice President, Chief Estimator
Kevin joined the Achen-Gardner team in August 1994. His commitment to increasing his knowledge and experience, as well as his dedication to Achen-Gardner’s pursuit of construction excellence have made him an incredible asset to the company and the construction industry. Kevin’s work ethic and detailed attention to developing Achen-Gardner’s best management practices have allowed the Achen-Gardner team to consistently deliver high-quality award-winning projects for our clients.
In the construction industry since 1989, Kevin’s experience includes estimating, construction engineering, design engineering, and project management. His direct involvement and supervision of field personnel has enabled him to successfully complete projects on time and within budget. His many responsibilities include supervising contract negotiations and administration, providing technical support to field supervision, and maintaining a key role in insuring the accurate accounting of productions, quantities, and associated costs.
Kevin was born and raised in Arizona and holds a B.S. in Construction Management from Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ). Kevin is married and has 3 children, Cody, Cailey, and Cory.
